In preparation for the coming changeover to electronic biometric passports and in view of the implementation of this major operation, the members of the Algerian community living in the United States are hereby urged to seek the renewal or extension of passports which will expire prior to September 30, 2010. The operation will be conducted according to the following schedule: • Monday, March 1, to Wednesday, March 10, 2010 for holders of passports valid until May 15, 2010;
• Thursday, March 11, to Saturday, March 20, 2010 for holders of passports expiring between May 16 and June 30, 2010; and • Monday, March 22, to Wednesday, March 31, 2010, for holders of passports expiring between July 1 and September 30, 2010.
To that end, a special consular mission will be dispatched to New York next March 20 and 21, 2010 to process consular requests. In view of the coming summer travel season, the members of the community are highly encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to apply for passports that will have the same validity as before, ie five years.
On the other hand, as far as Biometric passports are concerned, since they will be made in Algiers, the delays required to process applications will therefore be longer.
The special consular mission will operate at the Permanent Mission of Algeria to the United Nations at the following address:
326 E. 48th Street New York, N.Y. 10017-1746 (212) 750-1960
