Speaking today in Algiers, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said that she and the president of the Republic, Mr. Abdelaziz Bouteflika, have held "very deep" discussions on the situation currently prevailing in the Sahel region, and more particularly in northern Mali.

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will travel to Algeria next Tuesday Oct. 30 for a second visit to the country, coming on the heels of a previous visit last February.
Contrary to other trips made by the Secretary in areas of the world where she usually visits several neighboring countries, this time, her agenda for this trip to the region includes a visit to Algeria only, after which she is due to travel to the Balkans.
