Minister for Foreign Affairs Mourad Medelci and his Romanian counterpart, Mr. Teodor Baconshi have signed several cooperation agreements in Bucharest, Romania, on the occasion of Mr. Medelci’s visit.

They include a protocol modifying the agreement on the Algerian-Romanian Joint Economic, Scientific and Technical Commission.

Prior to the signature ceremony, the two ministers had held a meeting during which they had exchanged views on a number of issues of mutual interest, namely those related to the development of relations between the two countries and the situation prevailing in the Euro-Mediterranean area.

At a joint press conference held after the signature ceremony, Mr. Medelci noted the prospects for increased cooperation between the two countries and reiterated Algeria’s position on a number of current regional and international issues.

Mr. Medelci also met with Romanian Prime minister Emil Boc, who expressed his satisfaction with the “quality” of Algerian-Romanian bilateral relations and underlined the “significance given by Romania to Algeria’s role at the regional and international levels.”

In his reply, Mr. Medelci expressed Algeria’s “willingness to strengthen further” bilateral cooperation with Romania in all areas, and in particular in the economic, industrial and cultural sectors.

During a meeting extended to the delegations of both countries, the foreign minister highlighted the five-year development plan (2010-2014). With financing of $280 billion, the plan provides investment and partnership opportunities of interest to Romanian economic operators in the areas of infrastructure development in various socioeconomic sectors.
