Minister of Energy and Mining Youcef Yousfi declared today that the Algerian economy offers major development opportunities for Algerian-Qatari bilateral cooperation.

The five-year development plan (2010-2014), for which the state is providing $286 billion in financing, “opens major prospects for cooperation and partnership between Algeria and Qatar,” said Mr. Yousfi at the opening of the Algerian-Qatari working session, attended by the Qatari minister of Energy and Industry, Mr. Mohamed Ben Salah Al-Sada.

Mr. Yousfi added that Algeria holds great investment capacities in various sectors. He reiterated the “determination” of Algeria “to raise relations between the two countries to the level of their political relations, to the best of the interests of Algeria and Qatar.”

The working session, convened in the framework of the visit made by the Qatari minister of Energy and Industry, was attended by representatives from the economic sectors of the two countries, including energy, mining, air transport, agriculture, finance and industry.

The areas and projects reviewed during the meeting “hold great significance,” said Mr. Yousfi, adding that talks between the two delegations “will help generate a clear and precise vision and foster proposals favorable to both countries.”

The meeting will also help the two sides “to define the necessary means for the development and expansion of their cooperation and partnership relations.”

For his part, the Qatari minister of Energy and Industry, Mr. Mohamed Ben Salah Al-Sada, said he was “confident” about stronger Algerian-Qatari cooperation which, he added, will support future implementation of “investments and joint projects.”

The Qatari minister is undertaking a three-day visit to Algeria and will hold talks with several Algerian officials.
