The President of the Republic declared today in Laghouat that the recent decisions are evidence “our determination” to implement reforms that meet the ambitions and expectations of the people.
In a speech made at the opening of the academic year 2011-2012, the head of the state noted the transformations taking place around the world, particularly in the Arab world, of which Algeria is an integral part, he said.
“Under these circumstances, he said, Algeria has strived with responsibility and in all sincerity to create the conditions for political, economic and social reforms that are on par with the ambitions of society and its aspirations for a continuous reform process, conducted through constructive dialogue and wide-ranging consultations involving all components of the political class and civil society.”
In that respect, the head of the state indicated that the objective of such an initiative, as well as the expanded dialogue, is to introduce change through legislative means that codify political life in order “to strengthen the democratic process and support balance of powers.”
The reforms also aim at “guaranteeing individual and collective freedoms and human rights, rendering associative action more efficient, expanding participation of citizens in political life and promoting the role of women and young people,” added the President of the Republic.
“Today, Algeria is working with serenity, after the tragedy it endured, to build a society based on the principles of freedom, justice and solidarity, in peace and concord,” said further President Bouteflika.
