Exploratory talks were held on January 23 in Algiers with European officials on Algeria’s adhesion to the Renewed European Policy of Neighborliness, according to a statement made by the spokesman of the ministry for foreign affairs, Mr. Amar Belani.
“They aim at examining the fundamental principles and orientations of a future bilateral plan of action that takes into account the specificities and needs of our country,” added Mr. Belani.
“Following the implementation of the Political Dialogue, Security, and Human
Rights Subcommittee, which convened for the first time on October 3 and 4, 2011, in Algiers, this decision “illustrates our willingness to strengthen and give greater ambition to our relations with our European partner,” continued the spokesman.
Moreover, discussing the monitoring of the parliamentary elections scheduled to be held next May in Algeria, the spokesman for the ministry for foreign affairs said that the European Union Exploratory Mission Advance Team “will make a ten-day visit” in Algiers, starting January 31, and will meet with numerous high officials from ministries and other public institutions.”
