Mr. Messahel will co-chair the first meeting of the Algerian-American strategic dialogue

Minister Delegate for Maghreb and African affairs Abdelkader Messahel will travel to Washington, where he will co-chair on October 19 the first meeting of the Algerian-American strategic dialogue.

The start of the Algerian-American strategic dialogue, which will cover political, economic, security, educational and cultural dimensions, "translates the shared commitment of Algeria and the United States to establish a regular and structured framework for deep exchanges, which seeks to intensify bilateral cooperation in all sectors and optimize concertation on all international issues.

This new milestone in the already strong and permanently expanding Algerian-American relations confirms the significance of Algeria in the views of its main partners and their shared willingness to emphasize the exemplary nature of bilateral relations based on mutual benefits.

During the meeting, issues relating to American direct investments in Algeria, cooperation in the sectors of youth affairs, education, higher education, science and new technologies, trade, agriculture, housing, water and culture "will be topics of deep discussions."

The agenda of the meeting also includes discussions of the situation in the Sahel, in relation with the efforts being deployed to settle the crisis in Mali, the fight against terrorism, issues of peace and security in Africa, developments in the issue of Western Sahara, the situation in the Middle East, disarmament, the Mediterranean region, as well as other issues included in the United Nations agenda.

Mr. Messahel, who will be leading a large delegation of senior officials from several ministries and national agencies directly involved in cooperation matters between the two countries, will also hold talks with senior American officials at the U.S. State Department and the White House.
