U.N. Security Council Resolution 2071 on Mali uses "numerous elements" of Algeria's approach (Ministry for Foreign Affairs)

Algérie Presse Service (APS) - October 13, 2012
Today, the foreign ministry spokesman called U.S. Security Council Resolution 2071 on Mali "positive", noting that it has used "numerous elements" of the Algerian approach to the issue.

Reacting to the passage of the resolution, Mr. Amar Belani, Spokesman for the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, stressed that the resolution has used numerous points in the Algerian approach, considering that it (the resolution) "places the Malians at the heart of the search for a solution to the crisis in their country."

The resolution, he said, "calls on the Malian authorities to engage in a credible political dialogue with the Tuareg rebellion groups in the framework of a comprehensive solution which preserves national unity, territorial integrity and sovereignty of Mali and with the condition that rebel groups dissociate themselves from terrorist movements and groups affiliated to them, including AQIM and MUJAO."

"Furthermore, neighboring countries are involved in supporting the Malian political process in the search for a viable solution," the foreign ministry spokesman added, as he emphasized the fact that "the fight against terrorism remains the central objective of the whole approach confirmed by this resolution, thereby agreeing with the position held by the countries of the region who advocate eradication of terrorism and its organized crime affiliates, including through the use of force," he said.
