AMBASSADOR'S ACTIVITIES

19th edition of the New York African Film Festival closes its doors

H.E. Ambassador Abdallah Baali took part in the closing night for the 19th edition of the New York African Film Festival, which was held at the Lincoln Center’s Water Reade Theater, in New York City.

The Festival’s closing night was dedicated to the screening of the movie “Outside the Law” (Hors-la-loi) by Algerian movie director Rachid Bouchareb, which was organized to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of Algeria’s independence.

In an address made on that occasion, Ambassador Baali paid tribute to the Algerian and African cinemas, while highlighting the struggle led by the Algerian people for our country’s independence.

Mr. Baali also made a short presentation of the movie, which retraces the history of three Algerian brothers chased from their homeland and whose destinies became inexorably entwined with the destiny of a nation fighting for freedom.

Ambassador Baali seized that opportunity to pay homage to the late President Ahmed Ben Bella, a great figure of the Algerian political scene, who passed away last April 11, 2012.
