The Embassy of Algeria wishes to inform the Algerian community living in the United States that insurance subscription for repatriation of mortal remains is now accessible to all through an online interface made possible starting December 27, 2011, by SAA insurance company.

Thanks to the interface, members of the Algerian community across the globe can now buy this type of insurance, which is supported by the public authorities and offered by SAA insurance company on behalf and for Société d’Assurance et de Prévention de Santé (SAPS), an SAA subsidiary, without any age- or location-limitation or medical formalities for applicants.

The policy guarantees handling and coverage of real costs by the insurer (Inter-mutuelles assistance of Niort, France – Tel.: (33) 5 49-34-81-78) who is solely authorized to select the funeral home approved for handling all required administrative formalities connected with the death, post-mortem examination and ritual washing of the body of the deceased, its placement in a coffin and transportation to the place of interment in Algeria. Additionally, the insurer shall cover expenses for roundtrip transportation to the benefit of a close relative accompanying the body. Close relative is defined as the spouse, father, mother, brother, sister, or child of the deceased.

Annual insurance premium is 2,500 Algerian Dinars, equivalent to 25 euros. Subscriptions other than in-person shall be subject to additional handling fees.

Interested overseas applicants can apply in person or through any local third party of their choice (relative or friend) at any SAA offices in Algeria, making required payment in local currency (Algerian Dinars). Designated third party would handle policy formalities on applicant’s behalf.

Group Insurance (for associations)

Members of the Algerian community living abroad can also chose to apply for group subscriptions for mortal remains repatriation insurance through their local associations. Applications for group insurance may be made online by filling out the form available on SAA website and paying the applicable premiums and fees online as well. They can be made in person in Algeria and fees and premiums paid in Algerian Dinars.
Group insurance offers substantial discounts to applicants.

• 5% discount per member to groups of 50 to 100 applicants;
• 7.5% discount per member to groups of 101 to 500 applicants;
• 10% discount per member to groups of 501 to 1,000 applicants;
• 15% discount per member to groups of over 1,001 applicants.

In keeping with Bank of Algeria regulations, conversion into Algerian Dinars of premiums paid overseas in foreign currency is automatically performed within the SAA account.
