Passport-National Identification Card Renewal
Birth Certificate of one of the Parents instead of a Nationality Certificate
Algérie Presse Service (APS) – June 1, 2011
Renewal of expired passports or national identification cards will no longer require applicants to submit a nationality certificate; instead, they can now submit a birth certificate of either one of the parents or, alternatively, a death certificate of one of the parents, said a statement issued yesterday by the Ministry of Interior and Local Governments.
The required documents will have to be submitted along with the expired passport or national identification card, the same source added.
However, a nationality certificate is still required when applying for the first time for a passport or national identification card, said the ministry communiqué. First-time applicants will be required to fill out both sides of a one-page form. The form has three sections: Section A includes identification information about the applicant; Section B includes identification information about the applicant’s father; and Section C includes identification information about the applicant’s mother.
The form includes two annexes as well: The first one, called “Spouse-Children Annex”, applies to married applicants, whereas the second, called “Legal Guardian”, applies to minor children having a legal guardian other than their parents, states the ministry’s communiqué. The application form can be picked up at any administrative district or Daïra or downloaded from the ministry’s Website (www.interieur.gov.dz).
The communiqué from the Ministry of Interior and Local Governments also indicates that the required documentation to apply for a new passport or national identification card, pursuant to Ministerial Order of May 25, 2011, can be viewed online as well.
