ALGIERS- The new Director General of National Police (DGSN), Major General Abdelghani Hamel, was officially installed in his post on July 7, 2010, in Algiers during a ceremony organized at the Police Academy of Chateauneuf.

 

The installation ceremony was chaired by Interior Minister Daho Ould Kablia. In a speech delivered on this occasion, Mr.Ould Kablia said that the appointment of Major General Hamel by President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika to head the DGSN is "important," as it concerns the management of a key institution and one of the instruments expressing authority.

 

It is also "important" because the National Police "is in charge of a constitutional responsibility: ensuring the security and the safety of citizens and property," the minister added. For his part, Major General Hamel emphasized the importance of providing quality training to all police staff at all levels in order to be in keeping with developments across the world.
