Mr. Hamadoun Touré, Secretary General of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), who was in Algiers on July 20 on an official visit, highlighted the efforts deployed by Algeria over the past few years to develop and foster the nationwide spread of information and communication technologies (ICT).

Calling ICTs “the main development tool”, Mr. Touré hailed as “revolution” the increased development achieved by Algeria over the past decade in the ICT sector.

The ITU Secretary General, who was speaking at a press conference held after the signature of a Letter of Intent between Algeria and the ITU, noted that the investments made by Algeria in ICTs have enabled the country to place itself on a “heretofore unmatched platform.” Moreover, Mr. Hamadoun Touré met with Prime Minister Ahmed Ouyahia.
