Minister for Foreign Affairs Mourad Medelci was in Brasilia, Brazil, for a working visit, during which he co-chaired with his Brazilian counterpart Celso Amorim the 4th session of the Algerian-Brazilian Joint Commission.

The proceedings of the 4th meeting of the Algerian-Brazilian Joint Commission were sanctioned by the signature of minutes and a bilateral legal instrument establishing a strategic dialogue mechanism between the two countries, which is intended to strengthen consultation and dialogue as well as coordination on regional and international issues of mutual interest.

The two ministers seized the opportunity of their meeting to discuss the Arab-South American Library project, which will be headquartered in Algiers, following a decision reached at the summit meeting between the Arab and Latin American countries.

Mr Medelci met with Brazilian President Luis Inacio Lula Da Silva. The meeting with the Brazilian President dealt with the bilateral relations, whose exceptional character was underlined by both sides, and with some regional and international issues of mutual interest.

It should be noted that the volume of exchanges between Algeria and Brazil reached $2.4 billion in 2009.
