AOWCGWA International Showcase
An International Showcase was organized by the Army Officers Wives Club of the Greater Washington Area (AOWCGWA) at the Fort Myer Officer's Club (Arlington, VA) on February 18, 2010.
This event aimed at showcasing each country's culture and customs as well as developing social networks among various members of the association through either displaying handicrafts items, foods, or selling other products.
Mrs. Belaida KALLA, AOWCGWA's member and spouse of the Algerian Defense Attaché has prepared together with some Diplomats wives for days to best plan and organize for the event.
The Algerian exhibition pavilion was highly inspired by the rich national cultural heritage: colorful traditional dresses with matching silver jewelry presenting diverse part of the country were put on display.
In addition, delicious traditional sweets and dishes such as Baklawa, Makrout, Bourek embellished the tables and attracted numerous visitors who were quite eager to taste them. Sweet mint tea and succulent freshly picked up dates were also served.
One table was devoted to regional handicrafts such as brass serving platter, clay cooking pots, sand paintings and desert roses.
Each of the member countries offered a token gift to the association which in turn gave it a way to some lucky attendees.
The enthusiastic crowd was highly appreciative of the event and was looking forward to the next showcase.
Special thanks were addressed by the AOWCGWA Association toward Algerian Diplomats spouses for the success of their stand and its attractiveness.
