Algerian movie “Outside the Law” nominated for the Oscar 2011

“Hors-la-loi” (Outside the Law), Algeria’s official entry at the Oscars 2011 and directed by Rachid Bouchareb, was nominated for this year’s Oscar for Best Foreign-language Film, the Academy of motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced on January 25, 2011.

The list of this year’s nominees was unveiled at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Los Angeles, CA. The announcement was shown live on CNN.

The four other foreign-language competitors to Rachid Bouchareb’s film are “Biutiful” (Mexico), “Dogtooth” (Greece), “In a Better World” (Denmark), and “Incendies” (Canada).

The laureates will be announced at the February 27 ceremony held at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood, CA. for the 83rd Oscars ceremony.

Last December, at a ceremony enhanced by the presence of Algeria’s Ambassador to the United States H.E. Abdallah Baâli and other Algerian dignitaries and held at one of Los Angeles’s best movie theaters, Algeria launched a campaign intended to show support for the candidacy of Rachid Bouchareb’s movie to this year’s Oscars. The campaign was financial sponsored by the national hydrocarbon corporation Sonatrach, in partnership with the Ministry of Culture.
