Cultural and Scientific Cooperation
NATIVE AMERICANS PARTICIPATE IN 4TH TIMIMOUNE INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL OF DESERT PEOPLES
Made possible by bilateral cooperation between the Ministry of Land Management, Environment and Tourism and the U.S. Embassy in Algiers, Native American nations were represented in the 4th edition of the International Festival of Desert Peoples held in the Southern Algerian city of Timimoune. Dancers from the First Nations Dance Company (FNDC) based at Fort Defiance, Arizona, on the Navajo reservation, performed on December 17 and 18 before enthusiastic crowds.
Created in 1991, FNDC is one of the best known Native American dance ensembles in the world and presents Amerindian Powwow traditional dances and music and flute recitals performed by dancers, musicians and artists from various tribes and nations, including Kiowa, Comanche, Apache, Maricopa, Zuni, Delaware, Navajo, Shoshone-Banock, Lakota, and many others.
