Algiers hosts 9th international competition for Best Recitation of Holy Quran Award

Beginning yesterday evening, the 9th edition of the International Competition for the Award of Best Recitation of the Holy Quran involving participants from 50 countries began in the Algerian capital.

Joy and jubilation in Algeria greeted Taoufik Makhloufi’s Gold Medal in the 1,500 m race in the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Makhloufi raced largely ahead of Leonel Manzano (United States) and Abdalaati Iguider (Morocco) to win Algeria’s first Gold Medal.

Algerian novelist, Faiza Guene, was selected by UNESCO as one of fifteen artists under 35 years to be awarded the title of ''Young Artists for Intercultural Dialogue between Arab and Western worlds'' the UN said in a statement.
