(Office National de Commercialisation des Produits Vitivinicoles)

The variety of terrain, soil and climate makes Algeria a country with great potential for the production of quality wines.

This natural wealth, together with a time-honored tradition and a wise choice of vines, allow Algeria to offer a large array of wines whose character is appreciated by the most knowledgeable experts.

Algerian red wines, characterized by the intensity of their color, by the richness of alcohol content and dry taste, as well as by a diversity of aroma, have been ranked among the wines of recognized quality.

Traditional vineyard management, with limited recourse to chemical treatments and fertilizers, gives Algerian wines a natural character that is increasingly sought after.

These conditions are currently being cited in the effort to obtain a brand of wines produced by natural agricultural methods.

These are the many advantages that the ONCV, a leader in Algeria in the wine industry, uses to promote the image of Algerian wine throughout the world.

Quality control of the wine

The company intervenes in the quality control at all the phases of the winemaking process.

-                     At the level of the vineyard:

25 company engineers watch over the technical procedure and especially over the production of quality grapes by a well-thought-out phytosanitary protection procedure.

-                     At the level of the transformation and the stocking of the wines:

A network of 13 agronutritional engineers specialized in oenology direct all the winemaking operations and watch over the stocking of the wines in the storerooms.

-                     At the level of treatment and conditioning:

Each bottling center is staffed by two oenological engineers who take care of the diluting and treating of the wines and of the stocking of the finished products.

Eight (08) laboratories staffed by oenological engineers and chemists support the whole process of these phases of control.

The training of these engineers is handled in cooperation with the University of Bordeaux by short-term residencies and yearlong specialization courses.

Exports

Different varieties of Algerian wines are exported by ONCV to Europe, Canada, and more recently to the United States.

F.O.B prices, which are negotiable, vary between US $15 and 17.50 a case (of 12 bottles).

Shipments to U.S. ports are made by means of 20 ft. containers of a capacity of 11,500 bottles.
