Sonatrach awarded World Bank prize for its efforts to reduce gas flaring

Algérie Presse Service (APS) - November 19, 2012
Sonatrach Group was awarded a prize for reduction of gas flaring by the World Bank-affiliated "Global Gas Flaring Reduction."

This prize for excellence, which was awarded to Sonatrach on the occasion of the Global Forum for Increased Reduction of Gas Flaring and Use of Gas to Support Development held recently in London, rewards efforts and means deployed by Sonatrach in support of reduction of gas flaring to protect the environment.

The award ceremony took place at the Museum of London at the onset of the forum organized under the patronage of the World Bank. On that occasion, a commemorative plaque was handed by a World Bank high official to Sonatrach representatives attending the ceremony.

Sonatrach implements some 32 projects which have largely contributed to effective reduction of greenhouse effect emissions. Moreover, its midterm plan 2012-2016 includes some fifteen projects involving reclaiming of flared gas and implementation of initial projects will start in 2013.

Sonatrach's approach falls "directly within Algeria's environmental policy, which urges increased efforts to reduce greenhouse effect gases, in keeping with its international commitments to control climate change."
