Algerian-American cooperation in the area of education

El Moudjahid – October 18, 2011

U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy and Strategic Communications Greta Holtz expressed yesterday in Algiers the interest of her country in establishing an Algerian-American partnership in the area of education. Speaking after her meeting with the minister of Education, the U.S. diplomat indicated that the partnership “involves sharing with the Algerian side the U.S. experience in teaching English as well as the technologies used in that sector in the United States.” Conditions for establishing that partnership exist in Algeria, she added. For his part, Minister of Education Benbouzid said that Algeria was determined to work in partnership with the United States in the area of education to the benefit of the two countries and added that the American side “demonstrated the political will needed for the consolidation of Algerian-American relations.” Mr. Benbouzid briefed the American diplomat on the state of the education sector in Algeria and reviewed the reforms affecting a sector to which the State allocates a significant budget. During their meeting, the two officials have reviewed the ways and means of building this partnership to fruition and examined possible twinning of Algerian and American educational institutions.
