Algiers University's Medical School and Harvard University Twinned
El Moudjahid – February 15, 2012
Algiers University’s School of Medicine and Harvard University will be twinned soon, Minister of Health, Population and Hospital Reform Djamel Ould Abbès declared yesterday in Algiers.
The twinning is part of the agreement signed in June 2011 between Algeria and the United States on the creation of an international biotechnology and medicine production pole in Algiers.
Speaking on the occasion of the meeting by the Algerian-American high project steering and follow-up committee, Mr. Ould Abbès said that Algeria would benefit from the academic twinning, considering the American institution’s experience in the area of cancer fighting. In this respect, young Algerian physicians will travel to the United States to gain experience and undergo training in the area of laboratory and industrial pharmacy.
Minister Ould Abbès had visited Harvard’s medical school during his last visit to the United States. Also of note, a former school president had been the recipient of the Nobel prize in medicine.
