Mrs. Clinton to visit Algiers soon - Algeria and the United States accelerating potential for yet closer relations
Algérie Presse Service (APS) - October 25, 2012
U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will travel to Algeria next Tuesday Oct. 30 for a second visit to the country, coming on the heels of a previous visit last February.
Contrary to other trips made by the Secretary in areas of the world where she usually visits several neighboring countries, this time, her agenda for this trip to the region includes a visit to Algeria only, after which she is due to travel to the Balkans.
Mrs. Clinton's visit will take place less than two weeks after Algeria and the United States held a first meeting on Oct. 19 in Washington in the framework of the Algerian-American Strategic Dialogue.
According to U.S. State Department Spokeswoman Victoria Nuland, the visit to Algeria will be an opportunity for Mrs. Clinton and her Algerian interlocutors "to consult on bilateral and regional issues and to continue the fruitful discussions on economic and security cooperation held at the Algerian-American Strategic Dialogue meeting."
This visit to Algeria by the head of diplomacy of the world's first superpower undoubtedly reflects the acceleration of the potential for closer and richer relations between the two countries, not only in terms of bilateral relations but also in the framework of consultations on regional issues in which Algeria is viewed as an unavoidable actor.
