Minister Delegate for Maghreb and African Affairs Abdelkader Messahel hosted U.S. Ambassador Henry S. Ensher today in Algiers.

During their meeting, the two officials assessed the state of bilateral cooperation and exchanged views and analyses about the situation prevailing in Mali and in the Sahel region as a whole.

In this regard, Mr. Messahel outlined for his interlocutor the Algerian approach for a resolution of the crisis in Mali and for increasing cooperation between the countries of the Sahel region and their extra-regional partners (with the objective of speeding up completion of the constitutional process and helping to consolidate the Malian national institutions.”

The minister delegate also shared with the U.S. ambassador the Algerian approach to a “political solution” to the situation in northern Mali that is within the framework of “upholding the territorial integrity” of the country.
