Tlemcen, Maghreb city distinguished for its architecture

The participants in an international conference under the theme "Islam in the Maghreb and the role of Tlemcen in its spread" stressed Tuesday the importance attached to architecture to make of Tlemcen (540 km west of Tlemcen), where the conference is held, one of the distinguished Maghreb cities, a centre of influence and a meeting place for scholars, students and traders.

According to Dr. Negadi Sidi Mohamed, head of the Department of Archaeology at the University of Tlemcen, the urban style of old Tlemcen is distinguished for its subdivision into three urban sectors, mainly those relating to decision makers, including El Mechouar, the Great Mosque and the court of Dar El Kadi.
